I've not been involved in these conversations, but, if we take this to a
hotel, municipal or commercial conference center -- the cost will
increase drastically.  

I believe the original mission of hosting the conference was to keep it
affordable so that as many higher education staff could attend as
possible.  I think we were also thinking about wanting to make this
available to all staff - to include front line employees.  I believe it
is important to stay with this mission in mind wherever we may go.  :)
